I activated US-8843, State Game Land 145. I got 9 QSOs before day change (at 2W-4W) and another 18 QSOs after day change (at 6W). I setup the tactical delta loop, and grounded the black side that passes through the toroid. The feed is the red side. It tuned nicely at about 1.5:1 on 20m and 40m. It was slow going at 2-4W, but I was being seen in PSKreporter.
US-1418
When activating US-1418, Sam Lewis, I accidentally split the activation across 0000 UTC. Fortunately, I still got enough for the second day. I found some of my chokes broken, so swapped cable around a bit. I threw the 40M EFHW into a tree, and got 12 contacts, on FT8, on 15M and 40M.
US-1139 Chino Hills
I activated Chino Hills State Park, US-1139, twice while in Los Angeles. I hiked in 1.5 miles for one activation, and biked half way up one of the hills 5 miles for the second.
US-9719: 2025-06-09
I activated US-9719 Susquehanna Riverlands with 2W on the new Mag Loop. It made for a very quick setup, and I tried different directions. I got 11 contacts on 40m.
US-4361 King's Gap
The activation at King’s Gap Environmental Education Center, US-4361 was tough-going, even though I was at the top of the mountain. I used the GRA vertical whip with tapped coil. Internet access flaked early, so successfully spotted myself on APRS with APSPOT.
1W on 40m
Today I had some success operating 1W on 40m.
At 1330UTC, I made a handful of contacts, and got a strong -05 report. I even got a POTA in FL.

My Weeks in Radio
- French Creek State Park (US-1355)
- All FT8, 1-2W.
- Tried PSK, but no one responded.
- 80M EFHW, 130ft
- Built a 64:1 unun for it to help match better than the 49:1.
- Resonant in many places, maybe need tuner in one band.
- Customizing Allstarlink node to make it easier to manage.
- New R1CBU firmware for my X6100.
- Getting tempted about the zbit or sbit, but the X6100 scratches that itch for being able to customize it.

US-1355 French Creek POTA Activation
I visited French Creek State Park (US-1355).
I deployed my 40-meter EFHW, strung up into a convenient tree. I operated with low power, typically between 1-2 watts, on the 10-meter, 40-meter, and 20-meter bands.
I primary operated FT8, and I also attempted some PSK, but no one responded.
POTA US-4567: Marietta Riverfront Park
Rain was predicted later in the weekend, so I headed out to Marietta Riverfront Park (US-4567) for a quick activation to beat the rain. My initial plan was to rebuild my EFHW antenna, but I cut the new wire six inches too short, and I didn’t have enough wire on the spool to start again.
I opted for my 12.5m EFRW instead. It was 7 PM, so I focused my efforts on the 40m. I successfully got about 18 contacts before I packed up for the evening.
POTA US-1418: 2025-03-29
I setup at US-1418 for an activation. I tried to setup the 40m EFHW in a nearly vertical configuration, but my throw wasn’t high enough, so I went for a vertical 25-foot Rybakov instead. I used my 4:1 balun.
I got my activation working 10M and 15M FT8.
